About Yarra

Principal's Welcome

At Yarra Valley Grammar, teaching and learning is our core purpose. From Early Learning through to Year 12, we focus on developing confident, independent learners equipped with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.聽

Welcome to Yarra Valley Grammar.

At Yarra Valley Grammar, we are known for something our families often describe simply as the Yarra Spirit 鈥 a genuine sense of connection, care and belonging that shapes every aspect of school life.

It is this spirit, grounded in strong relationships between students and teachers, that sits at the heart of our School. We believe young people learn best when they feel known, understood and supported, and we place great importance on building the kind of relationships that make this possible every day.

Since our founding in 1966, our values of compassion, inclusion and integrity have guided who we are and how we work. They are reflected not only in what we say, but in how our students experience school 鈥 in the way they are supported, challenged and encouraged to grow. Our school motto, Levavi Oculos 鈥 鈥淚 lift up my eyes鈥 鈥 captures this sense of purpose, encouraging students to look beyond the immediate and aspire to what lies ahead.

As Principal, I am proud to lead a community where each student is treated as an individual. Our teachers know their students well 鈥 their strengths, their interests and where they need to be stretched. This deep understanding allows us to create learning environments where students feel confident to take risks, engage fully, and achieve their best. Central to this is our guiding statement, Confidence to Achieve, which reflects our commitment to developing self-belief as the foundation for success.

A defining feature of a Yarra Valley Grammar education is the breadth of opportunity available to every student. We place a strong emphasis on choice 鈥 in learning pathways, in co-curricular involvement, and in the experiences that shape each young person鈥檚 journey. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, on the sporting field or in the outdoors, students are encouraged to explore, discover and develop their own strengths and passions.

Achievement matters, and our students perform very strongly, but we see success in broader terms. Our aim is for every student to leave with confidence in themselves, clarity about their future, and the ability to make meaningful choices in life.

Our beautiful campus in the east of Melbourne, set across 30 hectares of open space and native bushland, provides a unique environment in which this growth takes place. It is a place where students have the space to explore, to connect and to feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Above all, Yarra Valley Grammar is a school where care is intentional and visible. Our commitment to wellbeing is not separate from learning 鈥 it underpins it. When students feel safe, valued and supported, they are more willing to challenge themselves and more confident in who they are becoming.

I invite you to visit our School and experience the Yarra Spirit for yourself. Speak with our students and my colleagues鈥 they are at the heart of what makes this community so special.

I look forward to welcoming you to Yarra Valley Grammar in the future.
